Reflecting on 2020

2020 has been a hard year on so many ways but the year also offered me many blessings.  I opened up the year with my daughter Malak's 5th unicorn themed birthday. Fares' Mario themed 1st birthday followed in February. I hope my babies have an amazing year ahead and lots of happiness and success in all that they do. One of my favourite things about my blog is reflecting back on it over the years and seeing the posts about the kids growing up. Before I returned to work from my maternity leave I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and what I had been conditioned to think to apply for a new job at another Neighbourhood Resource Centre. Although the job I initially applied for I did not get, I was super happy with the opportunity I was presented with. It was time for a change. At my new job I cannot believe what a drastic change I saw in myself. I was speaking my mind, offering my advice, giving my opinions and felt completely comfortable with myself speaking. Where had this pers...

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

“Is this not a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love – that makes life and nature harmonize.” – George Eliot Oct. 11, 2020 For all those that have not been to Niagara Falls in the season of Fall, it is a must see. Go and absorb all of nature's beauty, you won't regret it. The day was spent with the most important people in my life, my family. Just being in each other's company was a blessing in itself and to enjoy my favourite season in a magical place was absolute perfection. We started our drive in Niagara on the Lake, the colours encompassing the atmosphere were truly captivating. Reds, oranges, yellows, brown and green of all shades covering trees, grass, bushes and all of nature's delight. We saw people walking, barbequing, renting and riding bicycles, and just enjoying the day together. The real estate in Niagara on the Lake closer to the bodies of water are stunning! Almost every home had a balcony which is now on my wishlist, I might invest a pr...

Ramadan 2020: Preparations and Resources

Just under a month to go for Ramadan 2020! This year I have put together a nice '30 Days of Kindness' Calendar for Ramadan for children with the help of parents/guardians to follow earn some good deeds this Ramadan. Please feel free to pull and print off and if you would like an emailed PDF version just contact me and I would be more than happy to send it. I printed many copies and will be delivering to friends and family with children that I think would like to do this.   In the past I have tried to do a more festive Ramadan month to put some Barakah back into the month and have it be a joyous occasion for all. It is especially important for children because it helps instill that love of the month for them from a young age. Especially growing up and seeing the temptations of other Holidays and wondering why we don't do anything fun for Ramadan or Eid? Simple decorations and preparations like hanging some lights up across the window, lanterns placed around the...

International Women's Day 2019

Happy International Women's Day to all the strong, hard working women all over the world fighting to be heard. Think about women everywhere today; the ones who fight every day for basic rights, the ones who die just for a chance to be heard, about the everyday woman struggling to balance work and family and often neglecting her own self-care. Think about your mother. The strong woman who has raised you, put food in your belly, and smiled through her own hurt and pain so you never have to see that inside she is crying. Women of all shapes, colours, sizes, eras are just so amazing. Today's blog post is dedicated to a very special little girl in my life and that is my daughter Malak. I know in my heart that she will grow up to be a strong, confident, and intelligent woman who will make her whole family proud. I'm watching you right now playing on your iPad and sucking on that lollipop (note to self: get Malak to brush her teeth later) and I can see all the wonderful potentia...

Happy 4th Birthday Malak!

January 26, 2019 Another year has flown by yet again, I can't believe you are 4 already and starting school in September! Every day that passes you are getting smarter than the day before and the things you say sometimes are absolutely amazing. I love you to the moon Malak and hope this birthday was everything you hoped for and more. Having just entered into my 9th month of pregnancy I knew this party would be a bit of a challenge nonetheless I didn't want anything to get in the way of Malak's birthday (since she talks about it all year). Thank God everything came together beautifully and Malak was a happy camper. This year Malak chose a Pokemon themed birthday party. I thought that it would be simple as its so popular now (again). The thing with Pokemon items is that they are expensive! But that's never stopped me before, I enjoyed a lot of the DIY games put together and early planning to avoid disappointment. I ordered plates, loot bags, napkins, banners, straw...

Nestle Sample Box

Yesterday I received my Nestle Sample Box that I signed up for a few months ago! When you go to sign up on their website to receive it they ask you some information about yourself like your name, email, contact, and your due date for baby. When the time comes closer to you due that is when they send you the sample box. It comes in a cute little box. Just click on the link, scroll to the bottom, and press join now! https://www.nestlebaby.ca/en# Inside the box is a four pack bottle of Nestle Good Start formula milk and a bottle top.   A Huggies diaper. It's so small it's adorable! I forgot how small newborn diapers were.   A book about baby feeding guide and some coupon booklets! I found the sample box very generous and can ease some of the financial burden of buying formula by giving a few days supply. Although I am choosing to breastfeed it's always good to have formula ready on hand until you have a steady milk supply or if the breast pain ...

This is the first birthday for Malak we will be celebrating in the new house instead of our tiny apartment so yayy for bigger space, more games, and more decorations! I stuck to the Paw Patrol colours for the decorations, cutlery, and even the game themes! Red, blu...

Happy Canada Day

We awoke this morning with rainy, gloomy weather but we hoped for the best so our fun-filled day could begin. Malak was festive in a red Canada shirt and grey shorts with a maple leaf on the side. The look was completed with cute pigtails and a tattoo on her cheek. We spent the day at the park playing at all the kids stations. We were all fasting but Malak and Shatha got in on some of the snacks the park had to offer. Malak played on some cars and the bouncy castle with grandma and I took her to the playground and bubble stations. Malak loves to play and see people, she is so friendly. Every year they call up children onto the stage to sing the National Anthem and Malak went up and stood with the kids and even ended up lip-syncing the words (remember she's a one year old). It was the cutest thing ever! Malak even ate a slice of cake from the big flag cake that was served. Her being happy made me just overjoyed. It was a great day! Although it did get chilly throughout the day. ...
