Happy First Birthday Malak

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY BABY GIRL
January 26, 2015 5:20am

I cannot believe it has already been a year and what a beautiful year it has been. This year has been challenging, rewarding, and so new. I have been taking care of my own baby watching her grow this past year and being with her through her first words, first tooth, babbles, and now her first birthday. I love you so much baby girl and I know you will always make me proud!

For Malak's birthday party I invited my family over and my best friend, just a small, tight-knit group. I decided to make it a Minnie Mouse theme since I was in love with Mickey as a child and thought it would work! Everything is pink and oh so lovely :)

The morning of we had her cake smash photo session. I thought it would be better to get her dolled up and do it in the morning and leave the evening to food and family. Such a sweet little princess, she would not smash the cake though! I took a piece of it myself though hehe!

I only have two games planned for the evening since Malak is too young for any of it I thought I would entertain the fam. The first game I did is Guess Her Age, I glued pictures of Malak on bristol board at different ages of the year. Whoever guesses the most pictures right gets a prize. The second game is is guess how many kisses are in the jar and the winner gets the jar.

For food we had pizza, hot dog rolls, chicken nuggets, french fries, perogies, and tabouleh. Along with jello, creme caramel, chips, popcorn, suxai, and eclairs. Mmmm! Delicious! With the birthday cake I prepared a chocolate fondue with fruit and graham cracker tray for dipping. The birthday cake was a simple Minnie Mouse cake from Loblaw, chocolate flavoured.

She got lots of amazing gifts from our great family. She got a snow suit, dress, tennis outfit, baby and stroller, lalaloopsy, stuffed penguin, Rarity stuffed pony, and another stuffed pony, and more.

I had an amazing time and I could not have hoped for a better turn out. There was lots of food leftover and all of the family had a good time. That's all I can ask for. Love you baby girl, happy first birthday!

Toys for Toddlers

Toys can be a crucial part of a toddlers development of the brain and the senses. My daughter recently turned a year old and loves to play and explore everything around her. Books can be a great way to stimulate the mind, my daughter often brings books from her playroom and gives them to me to read to her. Pointing to the words as you read will help them follow along I've caught my girl pretending to read a few times and pointing as she babbles. Monkey see, monkey do 🙈. I love when she picks up on things that I do and it helps you see that your little one is on the right track.                                          Boxes that helps babies identify and experiment with different shapes and colours helps children as well. It builds problem solving skills, allows them to explore, and concentrate on the task at hand. The red toy with the shapes has an outline of the blocks in the...

Limiting Screen Time

This post is dedicated to kids (and parents) with technology addictions. I have been struggling lately with a toddler who seems to be addicted to the iPad. She wants it in the morning, afternoon, and night; even sometimes falling asleep with it in her hand. Why are we struggling with limiting screen time? Disclosure: I do not own this image Parents need to stop using technology as a way to distract their kids. It always seems to be the easiest solution to get kids to be quiet. Parents need some quiet time to do some work, give the kid an iPad to distract them. Parent too tired to play with kids, hand them the iPad. Parent wants some alone time, give the kid an iPad. It's unfortunate but its true but sometimes we do not have the energy to be "on" all the time and it seems to be the quickest fix to the problem. Kids tend to copy what they see like they say "monkey see monkey do". When kids see their parent always glued to their phone, laptops, etc. Is it...

The Working from Home Age

My latest update is that on April 1st was official day as per my contract as a Settlement Counsellor with Northwest London Resource Centre! For those who don't know it is a step up from my previous job as a Library Settlement Worker. The hours are better for me now, before I was working evenings and Saturdays but for this job I will have the option of working 8:30-4:30 pm or let's say I want to drive my daughter to school and then go to work I can do a 9:30-5:30 pm. The flexibility on their end is fabulous and I really appreciated having the option. So, obviously now things are a little different being in the COVID-19 age of having all non-essential places shut down we were deemed a non-essential service. Now we are working from home! My husband made an excellent observation about me and said if thing were different and you had the option to be working from home or being in the office I think you would choose to work from home. I think once upon a time I would've agreed ...
